Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
What is Habitat for Humanity of East King County?
Habitat for Humanity of East King County is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, which operates independently but has the same mission and goals as Habitat for Humanity International. The Eastside chapter is one of over 35 Habitat affiliates in Washington State. We follow the guidelines of the International organization in Americus, Georgia, but like all affiliates, we are an autonomous group with our own local board of directors.
Since it's founding by Bob and Shirley Patterson in 1988, this affiliate has built over 72 homes in the cities of Bellevue, Carnation, Issaquah, Kirkland, Newcastle, Redmond, Sammamish, and Snoqualmie. Our service area is from Renton to Bothell and Woodinville, and east of Seattle including Mercer Island to North Bend. The goal of this affiliate is to make it possible for low-income Eastside residents to be able to purchase simple, decent, affordable homes. Our goal is to lay a foundation for a stronger community by working with people who are dedicated to building a better life for themselves. To achieve this goal, we depend on donated land, labor, money, and materials from individuals, faith communities, and local businesses. We accept government funding only in the form of land donations or funding for land acquisition and development.
Volunteers of all skill levels work together with the homeowners and Habitat staff in a cooperative partnership to construct our homes. This is a fun and rewarding way to spend the day.
