Committee VolunteersOur committee members are volunteers who serve
a term of from six months to a year, and perform behind-the-scenes work that is critical to our success.
Committees typically meet in the evenings one to two times per month, depending on the project and timeline. Committees focus on Special Events, Marketing, PR, Faith Relations or Family Selection.

Non-Construction Volunteer Form indicating your areas of interest and the skills or knowledge you would like to contribute to a committee. Volunteer Committees
Land Committee
This committee is responsible for researching land purchase opportunities
and ultimately land procurement. The members work with developers, donors
and city officials in an effort to secure the donation of land where
possible and/or look for opportunities to purchase property at reduced
rates.
In-Kind Committee
The donation of goods and services is a big part of the support pieces
necessary in running the Habitat for Humanity program in a cost effective
manner. Members of this committee seek out people who can donate their
professional labor i.e. Electricians, Plumbers, Heat Installers, etc.
In addition, this committee looks for goods that can be used on our
construction site, all in the effort to offset costs and ensure the
production of affordable homes.
Faith Relations Committee
Works with existing congregations who are partnering with EKC to fund house construction while identifying and cultivating new congregations for future construction.
Family Selection Committee
Committee members conduct family information meetings, screen applicants for
homeownership program, interview and select prospective Partner Families,
review financial history of applicants, recommend families to Habitat EKC's Board of Directors, attend workshops and meetings and work with the Family Services Manager to update policies and committee member training manual.
Family Advocate Committee
Family Advocates are volunteers who are paired with newly selected Partner Families and act as mentors, supporters and motivators to Habitat for Humanity's homeowners. Family Advocates help families to complete their pre-homeownership requirements, attend meetings and workshops and finish their sweat equity hours. After families move into their new homes, Advocates continue to help by easing the transition into homeownership.
Special Events Committee
Plans, coordinates, and executes fundraising events such as the Annual Fundraising Breakfast, Golf Tournament and Fun Run/Walk. Also coordinates smaller events such as ground breakings, off-site builds and home dedications.
Day-of-Event Volunteers
Help with logistical set-up, running and break down of events. Only meets
when there are events, at the event. Volunteers are asked to arrive about an
hour before the event and stay about an hour after the event.
Marketing/Graphic Design Committee
Develops, packages and maintains consistent project messaging; Writes copy for and oversees development of marketing materials, donor communication and electronic communication; implements innovative methods to develop Habitat brand and increase visibility through PR and projects; designs flyers, t-shirts, swag and other project
and special event items.
Speakers Bureau
Pool of volunteers to represent Habitat EKC to the community through events, fairs, presentation opportunities, giving campaigns, fund drives, workplace giving events, industry related events, etc. Looking for volunteers who are able to speak on behalf of Habitat EKC and represent our mission.
Construction Committee
Comprised of individuals with architecture expertise, permitting and
licensing experience, and land development knowledge who can help prepare
land for development and the construction of Habitat homes. This committee
would work together on all aspects of land development over the course of
1-2 years to help Habitat prepare parcels of land for construction.
Currently the committee has a focus on fine tuning and establishing the
Green Building Program and initiating certification on upcoming projects in
Carnation and Issaquah.
Safety Committee
Maintains and updates the overall safety program of Habitat for Humanity
East King County. Establishes policies and procedures, and audits our sites
in order to maintain a safe construction site for staff and volunteers.
Volunteer Committee
Develops recruitment plans and recruits volunteers to staff the construction
site, special events and the office. Develops recognition and retention
plans for all levels of volunteerism. Responsible for monitoring the
volunteer worksite to insure volunteers are provided a safe, productive,
positive and memorable experience while serving with Habitat.
Finance Committee
Chaired by the Board Treasurer this committee manages the oversight
responsibility for affiliate finances. Members review monthly financial
reports, discuss the affiliates performance to budget and expected cash
disbursements and unanticipated expenses. The committee has responsibility
for the annual budget, recommendations to the Board on policy and procedures
involving the affiliate financial operations. Committee reviews pricing of
new homes and repurchased Habitat homes, reviews the affiliate asset
management and manages the asset portfolio. This committee reports directly
to the Board of Directors.
Media & Communications Committee
Works with the Marketing Committee and the Special Events Committee to develop and implement strategic communications plan to increase visibility for Habitat for Humanity EKC. This Committee strategically manages print, radio, TV, corporate and community media, as well as negotiates and secures print, TV and radio advertising.
Decorations Committee
Plans and builds decorations for all events including booth presence, table centerpieces, venue specific decorations, etc, which create the environment while focusing on the theme, mission and central message for an event.
