What is a Family Advocate?

Habitat for Humanity supports partner families with family advocates. Advocates are volunteers who are willing to build a rapport with a new Habitat family and help them meet their pre-ownership obligations, such as 500 hours of sweat equity and monthly homeowner training courses.

Habitat advocates are trained on how to support and empower homeowners. They dedicate time on the construction site, answer questions for homeowners and act as liaisons between the affiliate and the family partners. Many lasting friendships have developed between Habitat families and their advocates.

Each new partner family is provided an advocate. If you are interested in this volunteer opportunity, contact Emily Fortman, Family Services Manager, at efortman@habitatekc.org for more information.
