Family Advocates Needed
Habitat for Humanity of East King County is recruiting volunteers to collaborate with and support new Partner Families for homes to be built in Snoqualmie and Issaquah Highlands.
Family Advocates play an important and necessary role in our Partner Families’ lives. A Family Advocate will accompany his or her assigned Partner Family to Habitat meetings and mandatory homebuyer education courses, provide moral support, and occasionally work on the construction sites to help families build their homes. Family Advocates have the honor of forming rewarding relationships with deserving families who are striving to fulfill their dream of homeownership.
Candidates for this volunteer position must be compassionate, patient, and dedicated. Ideal candidates appreciate cultural and religious diversity, and have a sincere desire to help families with “a hand up, not a hand out.” Family Advocates usually spend 5-10 hours per month with their Partner Families for the duration of the sweat equity phase (1 – 1.5 years).
All Family Advocates are screened and will be checked for sexual offenses, crimes of violence, and felony drug convictions.
