Habitat for Humanity of East King County: March 2009

Thanks to Our Generous Funding Partners

The Seattle Foundation awarded Habitat East King County $15,000 this month. This grant will help support our existing Family Services and Homebuilding program in 2009. We are very grateful to The Seattle Foundation for their support of our mission.

This grant follows a recent gift of $25,000 by The Norcliffe Foundation, which is helping to pay for a home under construction at Snoqualmie Ridge.

Last month we received a $51,241 contribution from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, which is funding the construction of two new homes in Snoqualmie in 2009. This was the first of three installments on our 2009 funding award.

We are deeply thankful to these funders for their very generous contributions!

Home dedication today at 3 p.m.

Join us as we celebrate the completion of another Habitat home for a deserving family. A dedication ceremony will be held for Samater Adam and Ifrah Elmi and their family at 3 p.m. in the Koinonia Ridge community center, located at 36912 SE Gravenstein Ct, Snoqualmie, WA 98065. A community potluck will follow the dedication. Hope to see you there!

Volunteer to provide Lunch for work-site volunteers, staff and homeowners

Somedays are hot, some rainy, some cold, but no matter what our Volunteers, AmeriCorps, Staff and prospective homeowners are out there building homes! Up to 30 people are building every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday.

Are you not able to aid in construction, but have the means and time to prepare lunch for those that are onsite? This could be a great opportunity for a church or youth group to contribute to Habitats mission and can be done affordably, and within just a half-day's work. We break for lunch around noon and get back to work around 12:45.

A typical lunch spread for volunteers might include
(however feel free to get as creative as you want!):
- sandwhiches
- soup
- fruit
- chips
- salad
- water

IMPORTANT: If you, your church, group or organization are interested in providong lunch for those onsite, please contact a Volunteer Coordinator at scheduleco@habitatekc.org or 425-869-6007 ext 232. They will asist in providing you with a headcount and notifying those onsite that lunch will be provided that day!

Thanks for your interest in supporting Habitat! Remember when you volunteer with Habitat, you are helping to build so much more than a house...

You are building people
You are building relationships
You are breaking down barriers
You are bringing people together
You are promoting love and understanding
You are building and revitalizing neighborhoods
You are activating faith and planting hope in the hearts of people

Best Wishes,

Habitat for Humanity of East King County

Construction Update March 2, 2009

Mike Hammerquist’s update on what’s been happening at Patterson Park in Redmond:
We finished hanging drywall on Tuesday. We started corner metal and scrap out on Thursday and taping on Friday. I expect them to finish the living areas this week and start taping the garages. Texture and priming to follow.

Interior painting should start at the end of the week.

Decking will start this week and will continue until we are able to finish the painting above the decks.

There are a couple of areas we need to remove the siding and replace it with pieces that fit properly. Caulking continues.

The electrical trim was started and finished in the garages. We are now off temporary power for construction and are using garage and deck outlets for construction power. As soon as the taping is done in the garages, we will install the lights and switches. Electrical trim will start after we get the walls/ ceilings painted.

Work this week will include painting, caulking, siding repairs and decking.
