Habitat for Humanity of East King County: May 2009

Ruminations by Lee

With spring brings no more snow, new foundations and a Women Build that worked on the Let's Build a House Party (LBH) house for the second year in a row. We have now broken ground on 48 of 50 homes in Snoqualmie; one being the LBH and two are Thrivent Builds homes. All of which should be framed out in an amazing pace with the help of a well experienced AmeriCorps group. LBH is on the second story already and the Thrivent build starts May 29th and both homes will be completed by September.

Along with these three, we dedicated another home and have 2 more dedications June 20th.
Patterson Park.

The bittersweet end to Patterson Park is in sight. Building D is close to completion and we will have a “grand” closing dedication on June 13th. The plans are being worked out on how to demobilize the year and restore the rest of the park area. Much of the materials that have accumulated over the years will be sifted through and donated elsewhere and the usable materials and trailers will head up to the Issaquah Highlands for another great Habitat Site.

Construction Update May 18, 2009

With all of the exciting projects going on at Habitat EKC, I apologize for the lapse in blog entries, specifically Construction Reports. I know that many Habitat supporters like to see the updates of our construction progress at both Patterson Park in Redmond and Koinonia Ridge in Snoqualmie.

From Mike Hammerquist, Construction Supervisor at Patterson Park: One month to the dedication...

The fence is completely taken out and a small retaining wall was built in a sloped corner to help protect the new fence. It will be ready for posts after tree removal.

The side sewer is connected and will be inspected on Tuesday. The final electrical inspection will take place this week. HVAC trim out and fire sprinkler trim out starts next week.

Interior trim paint is %55 complete and picking up speed with a different Dux sprayer. Exterior paint is closer.

The mini container is scheduled to move next Thursday. Progress is being made on shedding excess materials, unused tools, and assorted accumulations prior to the big move out coming.

Work next week will include interior/ exterior painting, appliance installation, finish hardware, and clean up.
