Emily Fortman, Family Services Manager and Mia Walterson, Director of Finance will be leading a trip of volunteers to the Ganhaizi village in Wuding County in China from March 13 to 20, 2010.

Thank you for all of your support in 2009! You have helped to make the dreams of homeownership come true for 17 families on the Eastside!

Accomplishments in 2009

• 17 families became Habitat homeowners in 2009
• Construction on a new Habitat neighborhood commenced in Issaquah
• 20 Habitat volunteers and staff members joined Habitat International in Thailand to help build 82 homes as part of the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project
• Habitat EKC completed its 100th and 101st home in 2009
• Habitat EKC partnered with St Andrew's Housing Group and Eastside Domestic Violence Program to provide even more decent housing.
• The Habitat for Humanity mission inspired over 3500 community members to volunteer their time to make our community a better place to live.

Hopes for 2010

• La Fortuna, a brand-new 41-home community will kickoff in Renton
• Koinonia Ridge, the fifty home project in Snoqualmie will be completed.
• Volunteers and staff will participate in two global village trips in China and Nepal

Construction Update December 22, 2009

From Doug Copley, Construction Supervisor at Koinonia Ridge in Snoqualmie:

Unit #40
Finished framing, ready for trusses.
Passed nailing inspection and installed house wrap, ready for window installation.

We should be getting windows by the end of the month and trusses in early January.

The job shacks have been cleared out and loaded into our new trailer.

From Mike Hammerquist, Construction Supervisor at the Issaquah Highlands:

WE HAVE ELECTRICITY ALL THE WAY TO THE OFFICE TRAILER!!!! Now we will work on a phone line and a computer.

UNIT 1A
Ready for interior walls.

UNIT 1B
Interior walls framed and ready for tie plates and bracing.

UNIT 2A
Exterior walls 60% complete.

UNIT 2B
Stairs completed Friday and exterior walls 50% complete.

Work next week will include interior/exterior wall framing, exterior wall sheeting, seismic hardware, fire blocking and stairs.

Construction Update December 7, 2009

Thank you to all who came out on Saturday, December 5th to help celebrate and dedicate homes 99, 100 and 101 in Snoqualmie!

Update from Mike Hammerquist, Construction Supervisor at the Issaquah Highlands:
We should have electricity sometime in the next 2 weeks!

Units 1A & B: Subfloor sheeting is complete and ready for top floor exterior walls. Stairs are in and lumber is ordered and is scheduled for delivery on Tuesday. Seismic straps are started.

Units 2A & B: Joists are in and blocking started. Should be ready for subfloor Wednesday. Exterior wall lumber will be ordered for delivery next week. Stair landings are framed and ready for sheeting.

Work next week will include joist blocking, subfloor sheeting, seismic hardware installation, stairs and exterior wall framing.


Update from Doug Copley, Construction Supervisor at Koinonia Ridge in Snoqualmie:

Unit #36- Finished some back splash and counter tops
Finished plumbing and turned on water
Passed final inspection, ready for homeowner walk-thru and move-in date

Unit #40- Framing has started, 70% of exterior walls
started framing interior walls off to the side
plywood work

We also continued clearing lot 42. Only the trailers remain. If they are moved, they could go pretty much as they are. If we decide to take them down, shelving and furniture will have to be removed. We also cleared out around the mobile mini at the bottom of the site. It is ready to move. We also did a framing training for the AmeriCorps crew.
