Volunteering for Habitat EKCVolunteers have always been the foundation of Habitat for Humanity from the very beginning. There are a number of ways to donate your time and talent to Habitat EKC. Whether you are skilled in construction or not, we need you!
If you wish to have your volunteer hours documented for
Community Service or Court Appointed Community Service
requirements, you must contact the Individual Volunteer Coordinator
PRIOR to volunteering at:
scheduleco@habitatekc.org
or 425-869-6007 ext 232. All documented service volunteers will be
required to sign an agreement prior to logging volunteer hours with
Habitat. Print, read, fill out and sign the appropriate service
agreement [Word doc] from here:
Standard Community Service Agreement or
Court Ordered Community Service Agreement.
Volunteer
Jobsites
It takes 2,600 labor hours to build one Habitat house and involves over 500 volunteers from start to finish. 90% of our labor is by volunteers, saving us more than $48,000 in labor costs. Volunteer labor and expertise keep our costs low. We encourage individuals and groups to come out and help us build. Its a great team building experience for you and it helps us provide homes for deserving families at an affordable price.
Office
There is always a need for reception or administrative help in our
Redmond office. Visit the Office
Volunteer page for more info.
Family Advocacy
Family Advocates work with newly selected homeowners to help the
families complete their pre-ownership requirements. Visit our Family
Advocacy volunteer page for more info.
Communications and Media
There are ongoing needs for volunteers with print & web design,
photography, videography, media outreach, writing and editing skills.
Design needs include event flyers, brochures, photo editing, web
banners, invitations, programs, and other marketing materials.
Photographers and videographers are needed to document special events
and our progress on the construction sites. Volunteers with strong
writing and editing skills are needed for editing website content,
marketing materials, newsletters, brochures, thank-you letters and other
correspondence. Volunteers could work in our offices or remotely. Please
complete a Non-Construction Volunteer
Form and let us know your availability and area(s) of
expertise/interest.
Speakers Bureau
We are looking for people with good presentation skills to represent us
at volunteer events. Help spread the word about the need for affordable
housing in your community! Our Speakers Bureau consists of people that
are passionate about Habitat and making a difference in their community.
As needs arise, we contact the Speakers Bureau to introduce Habitat at
work place giving events, community fairs, churches, and schools. We
will fully train Speakers Bureau members during quarterly meetings. Time
commitment is 6 months to one year, approximately 8 hours a month.
Please complete a Non-Construction
Volunteer Form and select Speakers Bureau from the interest list.
Someone from Habitat will contact you about the next training.
Extended Summer Volunteer Opportunities
In the absence of our AmeriCorps team during the summer months there are
volunteer positions available to aid in the coordination and
facilitation of construction volunteers. These positions provide good
internship opportunities as they require a minimum 16 hour commitment
per week. Positions include:
- Day-of-Event Volunteers
Help with logistical set-up, running, and break down of special
events. Volunteers are only needed when there are events, at the
event. Volunteers are asked to arrive about an hour before the event
and stay about an hour after the event. To be a day-of-event
volunteer, complete a
Non-Construction Volunteer Form.
- Construction Support
Details to come. Check back soon.
Committees
Since Habitat for Humanity is a non-profit organization, we rely on a
very minimal staff to manage our affordable homeownership program.
Therefore we are reliant on the expertise of volunteers willing to help
in many areas. Visit the Committees
page for more information.
Boards
The Habitat EKC Advisory Board is a group of individuals that represent
the business and faith communities of East King County. These
representatives serve a number of purposes: they help Habitat gain
access to donations and volunteers, and they lend their professional
expertise to help us run our operation in a more effective manner. This
group meets bi-annually and each member chooses a committee on which to
serve. After a minimum of one term on the Advisory Board, affiliation
with the Board of Directors may be considered. To apply for board
placement complete a Non-Construction
Volunteer Form and select Board from the interest list.
In short, without volunteers we wouldn't be able to build affordable homes. So roll up your sleeves and come join us either individually or as part of a group--you'll make a lasting contribution to your community when you do.
