Youth Volunteer Policy
With a focus on Safety and
Supervision.
Youth Groups ages 16 & 17
- Groups will be scheduled on weekends and weekdays with the
permission of the construction supervisor.
- All groups must have a ratio of one (1) adult to every five (5)
youths.
- The volunteer day must begin with a site and construction safety
presentation as well as a summary of the work to be accomplished.
- Group leaders will be provided with
Waiver of Liability forms which must be signed in advance of
the workday by a parent or legal guardian.
- All volunteers
must sign in on the sign in sheet at the work site before
beginning the work day.
- Youth may not work on the exterior of the home above the first
floor level.
- Youth may not work on ladders or scaffolding.
- Youth may not operate power equipment.
- For safety reasons, the workday will end when the attention of
the youth is lost. While this is a “judgment call” such a
determination will be made by the construction supervisor.
- Dangerous activity or horseplay will not be tolerated on the work
site.
Individuals ages 16 & 17
- Individuals ages 16 & 17 must be accompanied to the site by an
adult who is legally responsible for them.
- Individuals that show up without an adult will NOT be allowed
to work.
- All above rules apply.
Youth 15 & Under
- Youth
age 14 and 15 will be permitted on the work site for specific,
designated projects only.
- Approved projects will be scheduled during off-peak
construction hours.
- Adult ratio,
Waiver of Liability, and safety guidelines as above apply.
- Approved projects include: recycling, grading, landscape and site
clean up. Other proposals will be approved on a case by case basis.
Youth Under 14

Youth under the age of 14
are not permitted to do construction work. Please look into
volunteer opportunities at special events or in the
Habitat office.
